PALM DESERT, Riverside County — Residents considering pet adoption have a local incentive through Homeward Paws, a City of Palm Desert partnership with Riverside County Animal Services.
The municipal program offers a $125 gift card to Petco or PetSmart for eligible Palm Desert residents who adopt a qualifying Palm Desert dog or cat from the Coachella Valley Animal Campus. This is an adoption-specific benefit, not an unrestricted citywide pet-owner payment.
How eligibility is determined
Prospective adopters should visit the Coachella Valley Animal Campus at 72050 Pet Land Place, Thousand Palms and ask shelter staff which animals qualify as Palm Desert pets. Participation requires meeting the city’s residency and adoption eligibility conditions. The city encourages contacting staff before finalizing plans rather than assuming every dog or cat in the shelter qualifies.
City officials say the initiative uses budget savings identified during the year to help residents buy needed supplies and potentially reduce time that adoptable animals spend in county care. A gift card may offset part of the initial cost, but new owners should also budget for veterinary care, food, licensing and long-term animal welfare.
The City lists 760-568-1441 for additional program information. Shelter animal availability can change daily, so checking directly is essential.
